Device: Guardian with Resilient Autonomy and Cognizant Explorations (GRACE)

Project GRACE (Guardian with Resilient Autonomy and Cognizant Explorations) is developing intelligent wheelchairs to provide an individual with a lower limb paralysis with independent mobility from home to work and back to home. Project GRACE brings together Northeastern University roboticists, ExtendATouch innovators and Dr. Grace Dammann (https://www.statesofgracefilm.com). Rather than a self-driving wheelchair, a mobility platform with guardian behaviors avoiding curbs, handling obstacles, and uneven terrain is a better solution for most. Project GRACE will develop safe, persistent, and personalized mobility to tackle accessibility challenges on the roads, subway ramps, sidewalks and bridges of San Francisco and Boston.
