7th Annual Mobility Unlimited Art, Wine, & Etc… Auction “Jazz & Jewels”
raises over $82,000 for Mobility to Employment Program

On Saturday, March 1, 2008, nearly 200 supporters raised their paddles high knowing that 100% of their donations would go directly to funding client mobility equipment needs like wheelchairs, motorized wheelchair lifts, hand controls, vehicle modifications, grab bars, shower chairs, and wheelchair ramps. Our clients, who are physically disabled, use this mobility equipment as a pillar to maintaining employment, self-sufficiency and independence. Mobility Unlimited provides the access for its clients to meet their own or their family’s basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing- alleviating tax-payer burdens for needs that may not otherwise be met. Mobility Unlimited would not exist without the support of individuals, corporate sponsors, foundations, and volunteers like you.

Client guest speaker, Bonnie Seibert-Gaulton stated at the auction “The encouragement, support, and guidance I received from Mobility Unlimited kept me on task and I was determined to achieve my goal. I had been stuck… but not anymore. I am back out in the world and my independence means the world to me. I have too much to give, contribute, and to learn in my life. I am lucky to have this second chance. Thank you Mobility Unlimited."

ANNOUNCING
The Establishment Of
The James M. Collier Endowment Fund for Mobility Unlimited

James M. Collier, a Rogue Valley Manor resident, has generously donated $25,000 to establish an ongoing Endowment Fund for Mobility Unlimited. Mr. Collier, an Iowa native who holds a Masters Degree from Drake University, is an active and creative philanthropist. He is shown below being recognized by Drake University President David Maxwell for a substantial Collier family gift to his alma mater.

Mr. Collier has also donated 60 Steinway Concert Grand Pianos to various arts organizations. We are extremely gratified to have Mr. Collier as a Mobility sponsor and admire his genuine humility. His words accompanying this most generous gift:

“Thank you for allowing me to contribute to such a wonderful cause.”

Again, we give you our heartfelt thanks for your generosity and welcome you to the growing ranks of Mobility supporters who recognize both the need and worth of our mission.

4th Annual Bridge the Gap Run raises $8,215

Our community came out to run & walk for those that can’t

On May 3, 2008, nearly 30 volunteers came out on a beautiful morning to Railroad Park in Medford to cheer on the 193 runners and walkers who signed up for The Bridge the Gap Run.  This event was introduced in 2005 by Chuck Whiteley of Best Tel, LLC.  Southern Oregon Sizzler’s hosts and certifies The Run each year.  Four beautiful etched glass trophies were presented in the 5K and 10K categories for fastest male and fastest female.  In addition to ribbons and trophies, several quality raffle prizes were offered.  Grand prize was a $100 Savings Bond donated by Premier West Bank along with a baseball signed by Steve Garvey.

Aware of the unique commitment of Mobility Unlimited,  sponsors and in-kind donors were on board offering to participate. Major anchors included Premier West Bank, KTVL News Channel 10, Best Tel, LLC, Radio Medford, Airport Chevrolet and Pacific Source  Saum Construction was a mile marker sponsor. Thank you to everyone who made this event popular and successful.

Although our client’s need vary depending on the individual disability, the request we receive most often is for modifications like motorized wheelchair lifts and hand controls to make vehicles more accessible to the physically disabled. The reason for this popular request is because this equipment is not considered “medically necessary” by ANY health plan and therefore not covered.  Ironically, this equipment is necessary for a physically disabled person to lead a normal and full life and pursue opportunities the rest of us enjoy.  Unfortunately, this much needed equipment is also expensive!  But, we are unique in that this is our commitment of assistance.  We assist only those who want to help themselves and who strive to be independent, self-sufficient, and productive members of society.

Our clients are required to participate in the promotional activities of Mobility Unlimited.
